Sorry I should have been posting more recently… This is from a shoot tonight I did with Mitchell Hutchinson. I photoshopped the hell out of it obviously, but it’s a nice shot without it too.

Old World

So I decided to do a self portrait for the old world project in my 180 class. I hope she doesn’t mind. It’s not like I didn’t have models to use, or I just used what I had. I went out and bought things to build a set. I went out and bought things for a costume. I had to buy a 20′ air cable release, that did not work too well with the 4×5, but I got what I needed (after a couple pumps.) This is “Portrait of Narcissus (Caravaggio Revisited)”.

This is a digital scan of a 35mm shot I took back in 120. I never used this image for that class. I did end up using it for 125. It is just one of the numerous multiple exposure shots I did in that class. This was before I put a bed in my room and just had a matress.

So if you hadn’t figured out already, I am somewhat of a surrealist. I am constantly looking for art to recreate photographically, when most people would say, “that can’t be done,” I will see something and ask, “how could I do that?” This is not one of those pictures, though it is a reacreation of a sculpture that I am quite fond of made by Rodin. This model is named Aaron Ribant. He is awesome.

I’ve put some of my favorite pictures from 120 (Basic B&W photography) up around my bedroom wall. It reminds me where I began, how far I’ve come, and where I’m going. This is a picture of the very first picture I ever completely manipulated. It also happened to be one of the first pictures I ever took at OCC and the first picture I took for my first photography assignment. This is in my room, but the picture was on the first floor of the Arts Center building by the double doors facing the Fine Arts building. I carried the trash can from the other end of the building to get it in that light. This shot is overexposed on purpose. I wanted it to look like it was a picture hanging from nothing, I think I accomplished that alright. It may just be a way for me to get my archived photos out there without actually posting them. It’s an interesting effect to me, and holds true to that old surrealist theory. This is not a trashcan, and for that matter it’s not a picture of a trash can…

Halloween is a favorite holiday at my house. We have fun. These are my dad’s figurines. He is very proud of them, and it took him quite awhile to put them together and paint them. That’s right, my dad put these together and painted them, and not like when he was a kid, but like ten years ago. He is funny, and a huge inspiration to me.

So it has been about a year since I went out looking for houses to take pictures of. I saw one last night that I really liked and had to get it. It reminded me of the days when I would walk around Redondo, Torrance, and PV from dusk till dawn taking pictures of houses. I would be lying if I said Todd Hido wasn’t a huge inspiration to me. I know he shoots with a medium format camera. I also took a shot of this on the Hassi, but I haven’t developed it yet. This is on the 3g so it’s pretty noisy being so dark.

This is from a series of pictures I took in the studio with Kelsey and Kenny from my 180 class. I solarized it in photoshop a couple different ways and I liked this the best.
